Pioneering Spirulina: 33 years ago, I was a young idealist who set out to improve the planet by developing and launching Spirulina, a blue-green algae, as a basic new human food.  Starting Earthrise: In 1975, I started Earthrise Farms, still the world’s largest producer of Spirulina, and I launched the still-leading EARTHRISE® brand of Spirulina-based supplements into the fast-growing US healthfood industry. The success of EARTHRISE has since given Spirulina the high status a new food needs to succeed. EARTHRISE also gave me the opportunity to prove that a revolutionary, new form of sustainable, super-productive eco-technology will, in fact, be able to meet the future needs of humanity.

today, thousands of tons of Spirulina are produced every year by a growing
number of companies around the world. Although Earthrise Farms is still the
world-leader, Spirulina’s biggest growth is in Asia, where it will be
needed the most! I’m proud to have helped to get this important new basic
food resource started. The same, unique eco-technology I helped demonstrated
with Spirulina promises to provide a host of other essential microalgal resources
for the future, including biochemicals, animal feed additives, fertilizers,
pharmaceuticals, and even biofuels.

Spirulina successfully accepted is why I got into the dietary supplement business
as a manufacturer and marketer in the first place. But I didn’t stop
there. For 33 years, I’ve continued to be a leading innovator in the

a host of other ‘blockbusters’ supplements, including Co-Enzyme
